The Results are in...

Hey! Just thought I'd quickly post on the results of the New Hampshire primaries! For the Democrats, it goes:
1) Clinton
2) Obama
3) Edwards

For the Republicans, it goes:
1)Mcain
2)Romney
3) Huckabee

A little surprising for the Democrats since earlier polls showed Obama in the lead. Apparently Clinton showing her emotional side made a difference! As for the Republicans, those are the expected results. Unlike Iowa, which is full of Evangelical Christans, (Huckabee's base) New Hampshire hardly has any, which could explain his drop. You can find more info here:

I tried to include a more liberal link, as well as a more conservative one. (CNN and Fox)

So Marta, who are you pulling for? Granted, you can't vote, but if you could, who would get it? Why?

That's a tough question. I don't like Mcain's policy on the war (we need to step up troop levels if we want to "win") I have several issues with Huckabee, including (but not limited to) his views on gay marriage and the "war on terror". Romney also seems to follow suit with the other Republican canidates on the war. As for the Democrats, I have no major issue with any specific one. Clinton does make a good point that she has experience. She also pledges to have an immediate withdrawl of our troops from Iraq and to push to make our country more green. Obama also stresses a withdrawl, but with some residual forces left to protect the embassy and "to make targeted strikes at al Qaeda". That wasn't my favorite plan at first, but I continued reading, and he seems to be thinking that we need to prevent genocide and to "fix" the country as much as possible while the Iraqi government tries to get back on its feet. However, the plan that I like best would be Edwards. He made it clear that there is no military solution to the war, and that we must withdraw. (also leaving behind troops to protect the embassy) I escp. liked how he talked about Bush overstepping the boundaries set by the 2002 authorization by Congress. Based on this, (although we have a loooong way to go) I would vote for John Edwards.

THANK U MADELYN!!!!! i've been wondering about the candidates plans for a while now and ur comment was very informative. thank you. as for my political opinion i think that yes, we do need to get the troops out as quickly as possible, but that might not be as easy as it sounds. it could take years, not the "immediate pull-out" that most of them are promising. right now im leaning more towards supporting obama because although he hasnt had as much experience he just seems like a good leader to me. in a way i do like hilary but her speeches always seem really stiff and like she's promising too much that she'll never accomplish. haven't seen much of edwards speeches or anything, not sure if i like him or not. and no, im not classifying myself as a sure democrat by just mentioning the democratic candidates, i just dont feel too enthusiastic about any republican ones yet.

I really don't think an immediate pull out in Iraq would work. The entire country would completely fall apart and they'd end up in a huge civil war. I don't particularly like being in Iraq but we're the one's who messed up their government in the first place so we should clean up after ourselves. The other problem is once people see us pulling out (even if it's slowly) they'll immediatly judge us. It seemes to be a lose-lose situation. I haven't been following the election very much so I don't really know who I would vote for.

Well, I do like Edwards, but I don't think that he is going to win, seeing as how he hasn't been doing very well for awhile now. If he fails to get the nomination, I am torn between Hilary and Obama. I plan to read more on them before I make my choice...
As for Anitas comment, normally I would agree. We broke it, we should fix it! However, I don't think that we can fix it, at least not militarily. When would you propose we leave? I'm not saying that you're wrong, I'm just curious. It seems that we keep hearing promises that we will leave when ______ happens, but it never happens.

I have no clue when we should leave. Ideally it would be when Iraq has a stable government but I don't think that will happen any time soon. I agree with you when you say they (the government) says we will leave when ______ happenes and it never seemes to happen.

Marta, it sounds like you are pretty well informed on your politics, do you follow politics and understand them? Because my cousin who's 15 knows nearly everything there is to know about politics(not really) and I admire and respect him for that. I wish I was as well informed as him. I think that we as the up and coming voters, we need to become informed about the political issues around us. As for you, you seem to know a lot about the subject, which is a very good thing. Keep up to date on the politics:)
