DFL Caucus
Well, I just got back from the DFL caucus! It was amazing. I know that sounds corny, but it's true. People turned out in droves! Last year, some 456 votes were cast for the entire event. This year, they printed 4x that many ballots and they ran out. 97 votes were cast in our precinct alone! The high school was packed! Obama won in our precinct, and, I am told, many others as well. My dad is an alternate delegate as well as the precinct manager. Basically, he spreads the word about upcoming events and helps organize people. News flash: My mom just came in and said Hillary is ahead 160 to 138. (bare in mind, it's WAY early, so no worries to you Obama fans out there...) It looks like Bush did do a good thing! (never thought I'd say those words...) He inspired so many people to get out, pay attention, and vote. I use inspired loosely...it's not as if he is a great orator, but his pure lack of competence really made the consequences of not voting clear. (Only 40% of eligable people voted in 2004)There were several people who, after voting for Bush, saw their mistake and they came to the DFL side. This should be an exciting race! I'm looking at a map of results as they come in. As of 10:00, Obama has North Dakota, Minnesota, Utah, Kansas, Indiana, Illinios, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Delaware, and Connecticut. Hillary has Nevada, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Florida, Tennessee, Michigan, New York, New Hampshire, Maryland, and New Jersey. Florida is a big boost for Hillary...anyway, I'm anxious to see who racks up more delagates!

Marta, I am so happy to see you so involved, even if it is for the wrong side! I wish I was as politically active at your age as you seem to be. I, too, went to my precinct caucus and was largely unimpressed. Granted, there was a huge turnout for the republicans, at least compared to what has happened in the past. Since I was a first time last night, as most were, the process was greatly confusing and seemed to rush through a bunch of meaningless stuff. When it came time for the good stuff, I didn't really understand the process and all that was going on. I wish they would have done more to teach us the process. I suppose it is my fualt for not being informed prior to the caucus but it would seem that you could harness all of this new blood. It was refreshing to see a lot of young people there though. I did sign up to be a district delegate for our county convention on March 1st. Hopefully that will turn into a rewarding experience. In case you are wondering, the results of our caucus was as follows:
Romney 32
Paul 18
Huckabee 14
McCain 14
I can't wait to see Ron Paul and Mike Gravel both get the nominations.
bahahahahaha.
Yeah... sure...
anyways... While the democratic race is definitely heating up, the republican race has been hot ever since the Iowa caucus chose Mike Huckabee... this is going to be the most people-decided election in recent memory!
In my humble opinion, this is because of the growth of independent media on the internet, which escapes the other-wise biasing pull of TV.
People are more objectional than ever!
i think hillary has is for the democrats (regrettably, i wanted obama)
McCain has it won for the republicans
I'm not so sure Subbu...I think Obama has a major shot...
